You can find Donald and a few of his pals on safari at Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It’s a fun character meal that features some unique options with African flare. But don’t worry, even picky eaters can find something here!
Breakfast begins at 8:00 am. Dining here before the park opens means you can get some great photos of the Tree of Life and Harambe before it gets crowded later in the day. Lunch begins at 11:00 am and ends at 2:45 pm. If you want to try a little of both the breakfast and lunch buffet make a reservation around 10:30 am. Sometimes they start switching the buffets out a little early. Dinner begins at 4:00 pm and does NOT include characters.
Prices range from $15 to $34.99 per person for breakfast and $35 to $59.99 per person for lunch. The prices vary depending on what time of the year you are visiting. Peak seasons will be more expensive.
Tusker House is our “Must Do” character meal for each trip to Walt Disney World. We love the interactions, and the menu has a lot of variety for both breakfast and lunch that you won’t find elsewhere on property. Don’t forget to try some Jungle Juice!
For breakfast you can find traditional items like scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, pastries, muffins, fruit, and Mickey waffles. But you can also find some unique items like Mealie Pap, Potato and Leek Frittata, Ham and Cheese Frittata, and my personal favorite, Coconut-Sweet Potato Casserole. And let’s not forget the Jungle Juice!
Lunch features Spiced Vegetable Tofu, Cape Malay Curry Chicken, Kenyan Coffee BBQ Pork Loin, Watermelon and Feta Salad, Pearl Couscous with Sweet Basil, and more options with an African touch. You can also find corn dog nuggets, macaroni and cheese, green beans, mashed potatoes, and deli meats and cheeses for the less adventurous eaters.
For a great, and somewhat different, character breakfast experience, I highly recommend making a reservation for Tusker House prior to park opening. Before the turnstiles open officially, you will be granted access to the park with your breakfast reservation. It’s really a great feeling to walk through Animal Kingdom before all the hustle and bustle and Photopass photographers will be available to take stress-free photos. Once the park opens, you’ll be steps away from Kilimanjaro Safari, which is a must-do early in the day. It’s a great way to start off your day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.
During your meal, Mickey, Goofy, Donald, and Daisy make their way through the restaurant greeting guests. They are in their safari attire which is unique to the restaurant. Your server will stop by first and let you know how the meet and greet will work. Sometimes the table order can be a little confusing and they don’t want families feeling like they are being skipped.
Since Tusker House is a large restaurant with lots of rooms, make sure you check where the characters are before heading to the buffet. You don’t want to miss them! The characters may also take a break but don’t worry. You’ll get to see everyone before you leave.
Tusker House has quickly risen to the top of our Must-Do Character Meals on Disney property. We’ve done breakfast there 3 times now and each time has been a fabulous experience. From the moment you are checked in, you feel like this is a special and unique experience. The food selection is vast and adventurous, with everything ranging from Fruit Loops (my son’s choice) to African breakfast fare (always fun to sample). The atmosphere is, like everything else at Disney, true to its African roots. The character interactions have been great. And, my favorite aspect of this restaurant has been the top-notch service that we’ve received. Last time our server told us to try lunch next time, and we’re taking his advice and looking forward to that new experience! I highly recommend Tusker House!
Tusker House has great some of the best vegetarian options at Walt Disney World for both breakfast and lunch. It’s nice having so many great dishes to choose from! The buffet area is also nice and open so it doesn’t feel as crowded as other character meals.
